Luminar Prime
What you need to know about buying Luminar

How is Prime different from the Upgrade Passes I’ve used before?
I understand the confusion—it’s a fair question. Think of it this way: before, every time a major upgrade dropped, you had to buy a new Upgrade Pass to get it. That meant pulling out your card again and again, release after release.
Now, Prime simplifies everything. You pay for one subscription, and it unlocks every upcoming upgrade automatically—no extra decisions, no surprise charges. But Prime gives you even more: it wraps in the full Creative Library (over 3,500 presets, LUTs, overlays, skies, and courses) that keeps growing.
And the best part? The ownership rule hasn’t changed. Every feature you unlock while subscribed stays yours forever, even if you cancel later. You’re not renting your tools—but building a permanent toolkit.
If I purchase Luminar Prime today, does my 12‑month membership start immediately, or does it begin when the Fall Update is released?
It starts the very day you purchase—no waiting, no fine‑print tricks. Your 12 months tick from that date, and you get instant access to everything Prime includes right now.
When the Fall Update lands during your membership, it’s added automatically at no extra cost. You don’t have to time your purchase perfectly, and buying now definitely doesn’t shorten your access to those new features once they arrive. Remember, anything you unlock while active stays yours forever. And with the current 50% off offer (correct at the time of writing), it’s honestly the best time to subscribe.
What happens to the Upgrade Passes I already bought?
Nothing changes for what you already own. If you bought an Upgrade Pass before, you keep every single feature that came with it—permanently. Prime is simply an optional add‑on moving forward. You can subscribe to Prime anytime if you want continuous updates and the creative library, but you’ll never be forced to. Your existing tools are safe.
I purchased the 2026 Season Pass. Will I still receive everything that was promised?
Absolutely. You’ll have already received every single update that was promised in that original offer..
If you want to keep receiving future Luminar updates beyond that point, you’ll need to grab Prime. But there’s no gap or loss,
If I purchased an Upgrade Pass (say, in May 2026) and later buy Prime, what happens to my Upgrade Pass? Do I get any extra membership time?
Think of your Upgrade Pass and Prime as two separate toolkits that don’t overlap. They include different benefits, so they don’t trade off or extend each other.
That means Prime doesn’t add time to your Upgrade Pass, and your Upgrade Pass doesn’t give you a discount on Prime. You keep all the benefits from both—they just live side by side.
Which features do I keep, and which ones require Prime?
First, the good news: You get to keep every single feature that came with your original purchase. Nothing is ever taken away from you.
Prime layers extra value on top. With Prime, you get one year of unlimited Generative AI usage (while subscribed), access to all new features released during that year, and the full Creative Library of 3,500+ assets. Your base app stays solid—Prime just adds the premium extras.
I’m a new customer. Am I eligible to purchase Prime on its own?
For new customers, Prime is included as part of the Max plan. When you buy Max, you get the Luminar app and Prime bundled together, so you’re fully set up from day one.
Skylum doesn’t sell Prime alone to new customers for a simple reason: a subscription to upgrades and creative content wouldn’t be much use without the actual software to run it. Bundling them ensures everything works perfectly from the start.
I’m an existing Pro Member. Am I eligible to purchase Prime, and what happens to my current membership?
At this time, Prime is available only for perpetual license owners—not for those of us on a Pro Membership just yet. Skylum is still finalising long‑term plans for Pro Membership, and they’ll share more news as soon as they can. In the meantime, your current Pro Membership continues exactly as it always has. Nothing changes for now.
What exactly do I lose if I don’t subscribe to Prime?
Honestly? You lose nothing you’ve already paid for.
Prime is entirely optional. It’s your way to get continuous innovation, new features throughout the year, unlimited Generative AI, and that huge asset library while you’re subscribed. If you choose not to subscribe, I simply won’t receive updates beyond my current eligible period—but every update you’ve already received is yours forever.
The only exception is the Creative Library assets (presets, LUTs, courses). Those are available while you are subscribed and end when your access does. But the core editing tools you’ve unlocked? They’re locked in for life.
If I purchase the Desktop Only perpetual plan, will there be a Desktop Only version of Prime next year, or will I have to take the standard Prime?
There’s only one Luminar Prime—no special versions for Desktop Only owners. If you own a Desktop Only plan and later decide you want all the Prime benefits, you can subscribe to the standard Prime at any time to unlock upgrades, the Creative Library, and Luminar Web. It’s a straightforward upgrade path.
If I purchase the Desktop Only perpetual plan and later buy Prime, will I gain access to Mobile and Web as well?
Yes, absolutely—and this is a fantastic bonus. If you own the Desktop Only plan and later purchase Prime, you gain lifetime access to both Mobile and Web platforms on top of your Desktop license. So, you’re not just getting upgrades; you’re expanding your entire creative workspace across all your devices.
When my Prime membership expires, access to Generative AI ends. What happens to the assets and courses I downloaded?
Let me break it down clearly:
- What you keep forever: Every single feature upgrade and tool that was released while your subscription was active. Those are yours for life.
- What ends with your subscription: Access to the Creative Library (presets, LUTs, overlays, skies, courses) and Generative AI usage. Those are subscription‑based benefits that are available only while you stay subscribed.
So, you keep the powerful editing tools you unlocked—they’re permanent. The extra content and AI usage are part of the subscription experience.
I’m a Lifetime license owner. Will I continue to receive feature updates, or are some new AI tools exclusive to Prime?
You’ll always receive essential updates—compatibility fixes, performance improvements, camera support, and general maintenance. Skylum has you covered on that front.
However, some of the brand‑new AI features and creative innovations launched after release will be exclusive to Prime. So your app stays healthy and up‑to‑date, but the latest creative magic requires Prime.
How do the three new plans for new customers (Desktop Only, All Platforms, and Max) differ?
I like how Skylum has simplified this. Here’s how I see it:
- Desktop Only: Perfect if I love editing on my computer and prefer a standalone solution—very similar to the current Perpetual Desktop plan.
- All Platforms: Great if I want flexibility. I get Desktop, Mobile, and Web—so I can edit from any browser or device.
- Max: The ultimate experience. I get everything in All Platforms, plus Luminar Prime—so I’m covered for all future upgrades, the Creative Library, and the most complete creative toolkit.
